December Gymnast of the Month

Madie

Madison (Madie) is an all around athlete/scholar here at GCH.  Not only has she continued to train and compete as a  Level 6 gymnast, she also has led her LDC United Soccer Team to a 2nd place finish in the county standings as a midfielder and striker.  She has done all this while successfully attending her 5th grade classes and advanced 6th grade math classes that require her to catch the bus at 7:00 AM each morning.

Madie has a younger sister (6) who is also active here at GCH and soccer and an older brother (12) who competes in soccer and baseball.  Madie, her sister and brother, come by their sports abilities quite honestly; both her Mom and Dad are avid sports fans.  Her Dad played soccer in college and her Mom played college field hockey.

Although math is her favorite school subject, and that lends itself to a great many career paths, Madie hasn’t narrowed herself to any one in particular yet.  As she says” “Hey, I’m only 11 just today (her birthday); I plan on being around a long time – I’ve got a little while before I’ve got to make that decision, it will happen fast enough!!”

The bars are Madie’s favorite event – “I like the routines in Level 6 a lot; I’ve gotten stronger and can handle the kips and pull throughs easier”.

If Madie ever stops working out, stops gymnastics or soccer and becomes sedentary – her love of Italian food will be her undoing.  She says she will be “Miss Roly Poly” in a hurry.  “I love cheese ravioli! Lasagna is my second favorite – especially my uncle Gary’s lasagna”.   “When we go to the beach he makes it and I eat enough to pass out from carb overdose”.

My favorite places to visit are Ocean City, MD (uncle Gary’s lasagna) and Deep Creek, MD where the family goes skiing each year.

Madie has a pet – a weird “Puff of Fluff” as her Dad calls it.  It’s a year old, 10 pound Cavachon (mix between a King Charles Cavalier and a Bichon Friese).  The dog is smart - it can sit, stay, shake hands, lie down, sing the Star Spangled Banner…..well, it thinks it can….all we hear is a lot of barking.

Madie is a very poised, articulate young woman.  You can sense the drive and ambition emanating from her and a feeling that she has a definite direction and purpose in her life.  It is impossible to be around her long and remain sad.  Her happy, upbeat mood brightens the world around her and forces you into a big grin.  She exudes happiness!!

Everyone say hello to the December Gymnast of the Month AND Birthday Girl:
