May Gymnast of the Month Samantha
Ancient civilizations, UFO’s, political intrigue, Samantha Newton’s mind revels in areas far beyond her 13 years. As an aspiring Investigative Journalist, Samantha would be perfectly happy with a TV that had three channels: Discovery, National Geographic, and the Science Fiction channel. Keeping with that sharp analytical mind, do you think “Sam” as she is known to her Level 7 teammates, fires up “Guitar Hero or Painkiller” on the computer when she puts on her game playing hat? Oh no....she’s a killer Poker player, and took devilish glee telling me how she decimated players from Jamaica, Argentina and other countries recently on a For Fun Only Poker Web Site. Sam has been flipping and jumping for 7 years under the tutelage of Jessie, Missy, Lynn and Jen and it shows. She is a solid performer in both Bars and Floor. This year she also had a great vault score of 9.35 and a best meet all around of 36.525! She got some of that great athletic ability from her Dad who was a triple threat athlete in High School, starring in Basketball, Baseball and Football! At home, one of Sam’s favorite activities is passing around the football with her Dad. She doesn’t just limply push the ball back underhand however; she rears back and let’s fly a hard, spiral with zip and gusto that Namath would be proud of. To maintain the fuel for her busy training regimen, Sam makes no claim of being a vegetarian or eschewing solid carbs. Samantha loves seafood. Shrimp, Crabs, Fish ...if it swims, slithers or can be classified as crustacean, reptilian or similar, she will eat it. She has actually eaten shark, sushi, snapping turtle, and alligator and is hunting for even more exotic sea fare to eat. Like most young gymnasts, “Stick It” is one of her favorite movies, along with “Top Gun” and the “Harry Potter” movies. Her favorite musical group is the fantastic “Daughtry” from American Idol fame. Everyone say congratulations to our May Gymnast of the Month – Samantha! Remember though...if you play poker, better bring your A game, she’s got a sweet smile and is a KILLER PLAYER!
